This past Sunday, June 13th, Frillygoose and I and our little red dog went to Emerson Point for a walk. It's kind of a long drive but definitely worth it. They have boardwalks through mangroves, several Indian mounds, a bay walk and an observation tower from which you can see St. Pete, the Skyway, Anna Maria and Bradenton. Anyhow this built up a powerful hunger in me belly.
After going through the usual list of restaurants, we came up with Shakespeare's. A good choice with the World Cup going on, however, a funny thing happened on the way to the opera. While driving through Southside Village, I remembered seeing a new place called Burgerworks. We stopped just to check out the menu. Hmmm, this looks good.
Not only did they have a large variety of burger styles, you could get them made with an Angus beef patty, veggie burger or chicken breast. They also have starters, salads, pizza and Baja tacos. The Mahi tacos were quite tempting! But we opted for the sandwiches, Frilly Goose got a Baja Burger chicken sandwich, it has Monterey jack cheese, tomato, onion, creamy coleslaw, Guacamole and mayo. I thought about the Blue Burger but decided on the Classic Cheese, American cheese, tomato, onion, pickle, shredded lettuce and mayo. I skipped the shredded lettuce because for some reason I CAN'T STAND the stuff. All the burgers come with seasoned fries, which can be substituted with sweet potato fries or onion rings for a buck more, and coleslaw.
As we waited for our food we took in the place, 12 beers on tap, check, a nice selection of wines, check, friendly staff/owner, check. The food arrives, and we dive in, well................. excellent!! The burger is done perfectly and the chicken is tasty, the coleslaw yummy and the fries nicely seasoned. This place is definitely a must stop if you're in the area of Hillview and Osprey! Next time I'll try the Mahi Tacos.
