This is another Japanese restaurant in Sarasota and it is one that I always forget about, but I don't know why! It is one of the good ones in town. It is on Main street across from the Hollywood 20 Movie theater.
I guess I don't think of it it because it gets lost in the strip of buildings. Anyway, there is no reason not to go there. When you enter, the place is very clean and modern looking. It has a lot of black furniture and colors around but it has the clean lines of a typical Japanese restaurant. Own ed by a Japanese family, the service is just great. They have great green tea (it feels real) and also a nice selection of sake. Remember when drinking sake you have to drink it slow and just be careful. Is not water it is sake :)
This is one of the few Japanese restaurants that really cater to vegetarians if you are one. I love everything but one thing that I really like from Utamaro is the fried tofu. Yummmm! it is just a perfect square of crunchiness and so soft inside. The tofu is cooked to perfection. Plus, the sauce is just enough of soy and other combination that I don't know :( and it is top with dry fish. (I think!)
Any sushi that you try is fresh and it is very Japanese, Meaning, not Americanized. And I do like that.
This restaurant is my number 3 on the list.
You better go. Great way to start the night with some sushi and then a movie.

I want to try it. We've been looking for another Sushi restaurant since the one we always went to closed recently.
ReplyDeletethis is the only place you have listed as "vegetarian" but then you say the tofu has fish on top?!? Is it vegetarian or is everything made with fish stock? THanks
ReplyDeleteHello Emily, thanks for your comment. The sauce is not fish stock. But I think what is on top is dry flake style fish. I had something similar when I was in Japan. But you can ask before you place an order. If you have other vegetarian restaurants you want to showcase please let me know. Thanks for checking us out.
