Old Clinton BBQ

A few years back, returning from vacation in NE Georgia, we stumbled across Old Clinton BBQ. We were driving south from Athens to Macon on highway 129 when off to my left I spied the OCB sign, I said to the Frilly Goose "Hey, I've seen that place on t.v.". So, after a quick U-turn we pull off the road and into the parking lot. We entered the restaurant and immediately were greeted with the smokey aroma of chopped pork. This is good! We ordered 2 pork sandwiches with cole slaw. This is the only way to eat a BBQ pork sandwich, while I've ran across people who think I'm one brick short of a load when I do this, once they try it, suddenly I'm a few bricks over. Coleslaw and BBQ just go together and why not get them closer. This method of sandwich building is often seen throughout Georgia.

This year heading to the Lakemont area of Northeast Georgia, after we passed through Macon we again stopped at OCB. This time though we got the sandwiches to go, along with a large container of Brunswick Stew for the nights traditional rib dinner. Other times when we stopped here, we would sit at the outdoor picnic tables and watch the traffic roll by, but this time we decided to join the flow and get back on the road. Hmmmmm, probably not the wisest decision of this trip. Back on the road thirty miles farther north and with 1/8 of my sandwich in my lap....definitely not the wisest decision. While a nice BBQ sandwich is the perfect road food, it doesn't mean it's the perfect driving food. Old Clinton BBQ is just south of Gray on the east side of 129. Real good pork and Brunswick stew. So the next time your headed through Ga., Get off I-75 and enjoy the less traveled road, just keep your car and food apart.
