Giordano's - Deep Dish Pizza in Chicago

I'm in Chicago in the middle of October, it is suppose to snow, but it didn't. It was cold 39-42 degrees and for a tropical silly goose like me, that was cold. :) However, most of the time Frilly Goose and I were sitting for 8 hours. Our silly goose brains were drained and we just wanted to meet the presenters. And actually, we want to go to eat in one of the fancy restaurants that Chicago has to offer. However, we end up in the lobby of the Sheraton, talking to the presenters, (I mean "the UX girl" who I follow on twitter and gave a great presentation) and other participants from the conferences. They all look friendly and open for new conversations.

Nice! I feel like I'm on cloud nine. But my stomach feel's on cloud zero. We are hungry and suddenly we all go to Giordano's. I'm like, yeah!!! let's go! we are going to talk, meet new people and see other points of view.

We started to walk and walk and cold and walk, talk, walk, cold, cold, cold, walk. And far away, I can see a neon light very bright and yes!!! we have arrived. I was excited to eat the famous Deep Dish Pizza. To tell you the truth, I never heard of that. I wasn't the only one. The Peruvian guy also didn't know about this. Anyway, we are here for the experience.

The place was warm, bright, and full of people. It has two levels. Tables and chairs are made of wood and the floor is exactly the one I want in my kitchen. White and black tile. The lamps have a feeling of 1950's and the tablecloths where white and red checkers. For sure, you feel that you are in a big city and it is cold and I don't know why it has a mafia feeling, hahaha but it was great atmosphere.

We arrived and a large part of the presenters were there. We have people from everywhere in the house. British, Belgian, Peruvian, New Yorkers, Venezuelan, Floridians, Minneapolis and if I missed you, sorry!

We get a long table and sit down and we are all ready to eat. Service came and it was ok, I mean this girl was sweet, but just rushing the orders. I order a Chicago beer and it goes perfect with a silly goose like me. The beer was call GOOSE ISLAND . It was very good. I mean, I'm not an expert but it was great to me.

The guys order 3 famous deep dish pizzas. My Frilly Goose was ok with the choice to come at Giordano's, however; she wanted me to experience a different type of cuisine. But it is too late to change. :)

We got Cheese pizza with their famous sauce, The Special which has mushrooms, sausages, onions, green peppers, and the last one was Vegetarian with mushrooms, green peppers and onions. We were a total of 16 people and do you think that 3 pizzas was enough? Guess again! These where the LARGEST pizzas I have ever seen. I mean, many of us that haven't seen pizzas this big where we're from . Look at the picture right here.

We were all dumbfounded with the size of this HUGE pizza. It was very good, the cheese and the tomatoes sauce was very fresh. Each slice was almost like 5 pounds, I'm not kidding. But it has too much green pepper for my taste. Finally, I'm full after half a slice but I still cannot find the sausage. I forget about this and we kept talking about what we do, what I do, cool things about Venezuela, politics, immigration and more. Time passes by and I keep eating the same slice. Finally, I get to the sausage which was close to the crust.

Now, I can tell you that I've eaten more than 2500 calories on this slice alone. However, it was very, very good and very fresh. It kinda works for the cold weather that Chicago has. After dinner you could see that most of us were, "should we do something else, or go somewhere else" and the other half was like "we are full and done, we need to go".

Yes, it was a long day, some of the presenters were leaving the following day and others were just too tired. I was tired too, but this is our last night in Chicago and we need to see more.

We did enjoy the night, plus the famous Deep Dish Pizza. It is a must have when in Chicago. Like the saying said: "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". That is the silly goose motto.

Until next time gooses!
